Exodus 2:11-2:15
11 One day, when Moses had grown up, he went out to his people and looked on their burdens, and he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his people. 12 He looked this way and that, and seeing no one, he struck down the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. 13 When he went out the next day, behold, two Hebrews were struggling together. And he said to the man in the wrong, "Why do you strike your companion?" 14 He answered, "Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you mean to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?" Then Moses was afraid, and thought, "Surely the thing is known." 15 When Pharaoh heard of it, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from Pharaoh and stayed in the land of Midian. And he sat down by a well.
Exodus is a true story of divine deliverance that points us to the greatest Exodus of all, the deliverance for all peoples from sin and death through Jesus Christ the Son of God.
Whether in Moses’ life or Israel’s life or your life today, that no matter how dark, how painful, how silent the stage of your life may be, God is at work backstage. If we could pull back the curtain, we would know and see this God doing wonders. God is always at work preparing good and glory for His people.
Do you mean to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?" Then Moses was afraid, and thought, "Surely the thing is known."
14 …Then Moses was afraid, and thought, "Surely the thing is known." 15 When Pharaoh heard of it, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from Pharaoh and stayed in the land of Midian. And he sat down by a well.
Hebrews 11:24-26 24 By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, 25 choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. 26 He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.
11 One day, when Moses had grown up, he went out to his people and looked on their burdens, and he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his people.
Do you get embarrassed when the topic of Christianity comes up among family or friends or co-workers? Are you willing to identify with Jesus and his people no matter the consequences?
Will we identify with the reproach of Scripture and Christ and the church? Or will we shy away and melt into worldly conformity and comfort?
Acts 7:23-29 23 When [Moses] was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brothers, the children of Israel. 24 And seeing one of them being wronged, he defended the oppressed man and avenged him by striking down the Egyptian. 25 He supposed that his brothers would understand that God was giving them salvation by his hand, but they did not understand. 26 And on the following day he appeared to them as they were quarreling and tried to reconcile them, saying, 'Men, you are brothers. Why do you wrong each other?' 27 But the man who was wronging his neighbor thrust him aside, saying, 'Who made you a ruler and a judge over us? 28 Do you want to kill me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?' 29 At this retort Moses fled and became an exile in the land of Midian, where he became the father of two sons.
Don’t miss how Moses is a kind of Jesus, a type of Christ. Moses is the shadow, Jesus is the substance. The great deliverance through Moses for Israel will point to an even greater deliverance through Jesus for all God’s elect for all time.
It may seem a long while for us, but God knows best and His timing is best and we have to learn to trust and grow as we wait on the Lord.
In so many ways God often calls us to wait, not for His sake, but for ours; for our growth, for our maturity.
Where you live and what you do and what you have are not more important than where your treasure is. Are you trusting Jesus day by day? Are you wanting to be more like him? Are you pursuing the fruit of the Spirit in your life? Is your heart being formed? Is your life honoring the Lord?
Maybe you just want to give up, you just don’t see the purpose in it, you just want to move on to something newer, better, and greater. But God has different plans for you right now. God is not wasting your time. He is not wasting your waiting.
Keep trusting, keep loving, keep serving, keep waiting on the Lord. He is faithful and good.
