The Response to God’s Word that is Without Hesitation

  1. v.39 -- 39 In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town in Judah

  2. Darrell Bock -- Mary’s departure reflects an instant response to God’s leading. This view is the most satisfying.

  3. v.36 -- 36 And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren.

  4. Robert Stein -- Luke here described Mary as a model believer eagerly responding in obedience to the heavenly message of Luke 1:36.

  5. When it comes to the Word of God, hesitation can be a very dangerous thing. It is often our hesitation (not outright rejection) that leads to our eventual disobedience.

The Preaching of Christ that Cannot be Contained

  1. v.41 -- 41 And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb

  2. v.44 -- 44 For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.

  3. John was sent for this! He was not going to wait 30 years at the Jordan river. John was going to preach Christ right here in the womb!

  4. “Not yet born, John already prophecies!”

The Worship to Christ that is Absolutely Right

  • v.43 -- 43 And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

  • Luke 2:11 -- 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

  • John 20:28 -- 28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”

The Word of God that Can Be Believed as Soon as it is Spoken

  • v.45 -- 45 And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”

  • Dale Ralph Davis – Nothing is as dependable as God’s Word.

Mary was Taught to Receive the Word of God from Childhood

  • Someone must have taught Mary the Bible because her song was packed full of Scripture

    • (1 Samuel 2; Psalm 103, 22, 44, 89, 98. 147, 25; Hab 3; Deut 10; Gen 12; Micah 7; Isaiah 41; Job 5)

  • Parents, grandparents, Sunday school teachers, youth advisors, be encouraged! What you are doing matters!

Mary Knew God Could Always, always be Trusted

  • v.54-55 -- 54 He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, 55 as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”
