Blood is the Way to God

Sunday, October 30, 2022
Pastor Jojo Ma

Heb 9:22 Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

Blood is the price for sin, and blood is necessary for salvation, and blood is the way to God.

I.          The necessity of blood
II.        The significance of water
III.       The value of women

I.         The necessity of blood
1 He made the altar of burnt offering of acacia wood. Five cubits was its length, and five cubits its breadth. It was square, and three cubits was its height.

The closer you were to God, there was gold. The further you were from God, there was bronze. The common Israelite could enter the courtyard of bronze but never the golden ark of the covenant where God was. This earthly tabernacle was a powerful and vivid reminder to the Israelites of their depravity and God’s holiness, that no one can see God and live.

It’s not your strife or problems or sadness or finances or relationships that need to be fixed first. It’s your sin. You need forgiveness from God. You need to be at peace with God before you have the peace of God.

Heb 9:22 Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

Has your sin been atoned for? Have you had your offenses against God forgiven? This is why you need Christ. The apostle Paul wrote in Rom 3:25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness.

Lev 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it for you on the altar to make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life.

Lev 6:12-13 The fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not go out. The priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and he shall arrange the burnt offering on it and shall burn on it the fat of the peace offerings. Fire shall be kept burning on the altar continually; it shall not go out.

Heb 9:26 [Jesus] has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

John Owen: “The altar which we now have is Christ alone and his sacrifice. For he was priest, altar, and sacrifice…all in himself.”

II.        The significance of water
8 He made the basin of bronze and its stand of bronze…

Ex 30:17-21 17 The Lord said to Moses, 18 “You shall also make a basin of bronze, with its stand of bronze, for washing. You shall put it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and you shall put water in it, 19 with which Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet. 20 When they go into the tent of meeting, or when they come near the altar to minister, to burn a food offering to the Lord, they shall wash with water, so that they may not die. 21 They shall wash their hands and their feet, so that they may not die. It shall be a statute forever to them, even to him and to his offspring throughout their generations.”

2 Cor 7:1 Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.

Eph 5:26 …having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word.

III.      The value of women
8 He made the basin of bronze and its stand of bronze, from the mirrors of the ministering women who ministered in the entrance of the tent of meeting.

God has made man male and female, that men and women are equal in value but distinct in roles or functions. In other words, men and women are equal in our worth but different in our work.

8 He made the basin of bronze and its stand of bronze, from the mirrors of the ministering women who ministered in the entrance of the tent of meeting.

They had an important work where God would dwell with His people and where they could use their gifts for His glory. And this is the same for our sisters in Christ today, all of you women here who believe on Jesus. You are precious, loved, valuble, and indispensable to us and our church and God’s kingdom work here on earth.

1 Pet 3:4 let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.
