Exodus 19:1-6

1 On the third new moon after the people of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on that day they came into the wilderness of Sinai. 2 They set out from Rephidim and came into the wilderness of Sinai, and they encamped in the wilderness. There Israel encamped before the mountain, 3 while Moses went up to God. The LORD called to him out of the mountain, saying, "Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the people of Israel: 4 You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself. 5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; 6 and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel."

Do you often doubt God’s love for you? Do you feel like you need to be good enough or perform well enough each day for God? Do you struggle with insecurity in your identity as a child of God? Do you think, “He loves me, He loves me not, He loves me, He loves me not?”

I.          A holy mountain [vv1-2]
II.        A protective God [vv3-4]
III.       A gracious salvation [v5a]
IV.       A treasured possession [v5b]
V.        A royal priesthood [v6]

I.         A holy mountain [vv1-2]
1 On the third new moon after the people of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on that day they came into the wilderness of Sinai. 2 They set out from Rephidim and came into the wilderness of Sinai, and they encamped in the wilderness. There Israel encamped before the mountain.

Ex 3:12 But I will be with you, and this shall be the sign for you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.

3 while Moses went up to God…

Ps 36:6 Your righteousness is like the mountains of God.

II.        A protective God [vv3-4]
3 while Moses went up to God. The LORD called to him out of the mountain, saying, "Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the people of Israel: 4 You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself.

4 You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself.

The God of the Bible not only rescues us but redeems us…to Himself. He not only forgives us, He loves us, He wants us, He desires fellowship with us, and He wants to give us the very best, namely Himself.

III.      A gracious salvation [v5a]
5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant…

You must have a big doctrine of grace if you want to mature in the Christian life --- a big, big doctrine of grace. Not a tiny, wimpy doctrine of grace but a very, very big view of God’s grace. Grace frames the entire painting of salvation. Grace is the “ABC” and the “XYZ” of our salvation.

Heb 9:15 Therefore [Jesus] is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.

IV.       A treasured possession [v5b]
Ex 19:5b …you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine.

Deut 26:18 And the LORD has declared today that you are a people for his treasured possession, as he has promised you, and that you are to keep all his commandments.

We need to turn down the volume of our feelings and of social media and turn up the volume of God’s voice, God’s Word: “You are my treasured possession.”

1 Pet 2:9a But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession.

V.        A royal priesthood [v6]
6 and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.

We are His treasured possession. We are a royal priesthood and a holy nation. Let us be what we are: a people deeply loved by God.
