Yes Lord, You Know I Love You
John 21:15-17

John 21:15-17

15 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs." 16 He said to him a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Tend my sheep." 17 He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, "Do you love me?" and he said to him, "Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep."

Praise God that the gospel is good news for all of us: failures and sinners alike. Jesus has a grace for each of us.

Our Lord was doing Peter good. Our Lord was doing the serious work of bringing Peter to a true repentance. This was the only way to get a true healing and genuine restoration.

15 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?"

The New Testament teaches that the one who has been forgiven little loves little, but the one who has been forgiven much loves much. Peter, of all people, understood this.

Jesus has a grace for you in your time of need. Keep looking to Jesus. It’s not the strength of your faith, it’s the strength of Jesus that will carry the day. And that is good news.

17 He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, "Do you love me?" and he said to him, "Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep."

This is the main responsibility of a pastor: preaching and teaching the Word of God.

Today, for many American churches, entertainment is pushed, immorality is embraced, false teaching is accepted. Why? Because the Word of God is not being faithfully, regularly, systematically, expositionally, and comprehensively taught. The weakness of the modern-day American church flows from a famine of the Word of God.

Ps 33:6 By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host.

Heb 1:3 [Jesus] upholds the universe by the word of his power.

Is 40:8 The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.

1 Pet 1:23 since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God.

Jn 17:17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

If you want entertainment and laughter, you’ve got a lot of choices. But if you want eternal life and lasting joy, only the Word of God will do.

Ps 119:18 Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Your law.

Jesus gets to the heart of why human beings exist. Jesus asks the most important question anyone could ask in the entire universe: “Do you love me? Do you love the very Son of God and only Savior of the world?”

I love you, Lord, and I lift my voice, to worship You, oh, my soul, rejoice! Take joy my King, in what You hear, may it be a sweet, sweet sound in Your ear. [2x]
