The Absence of God That Can Feel Very Real

  • v.8a -- Rejoice not over me, O my enemy;

  • v.10a -- 10 Then my enemy will see, and shame will cover her who said to me, “Where is the Lord your God?”

  • Is 36:18-20 -- 18 Beware lest Hezekiah mislead you by saying, “The Lord will deliver us.” Has any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? 19 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand? 20 Who among all the gods of these lands have delivered their lands out of my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?

  • Ps 137:3 -- For there our captors required of us songs, and our tormentors, mirth, saying, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”

The Judgement of God That is Right

  • v.9 -- I will bear the indignation of the Lord because I have sinned against him, until he pleads my cause and executes judgment for me. He will bring me out to the light; I shall look upon his vindication.

The Love of God That is Steadfast

  • v.9 -- I will bear the indignation of the Lord because I have sinned against him, until he pleads my cause and executes judgment for me. He will bring me out to the light; I shall look upon his vindication.

The People of God Who Will Be Gathered

  • v.11-13 -- 11 A day for the building of your walls! In that day the boundary shall be far extended. 12 In that day they will come to you, from Assyria and the cities of Egypt, and from Egypt to the River, from sea to sea and from mountain to mountain. 13 But the earth will be desolate because of its inhabitants, for the fruit of their deeds.
