Colossians 4:10-4:14

10 Aristarchus my fellow prisoner greets you, and Mark the cousin of Barnabas (concerning whom you have received instructions --- if he comes to you, welcome him), 11 and Jesus who is called Justus. These are the only men of the circumcision among my fellow workers for the kingdom of God, and they have been a comfort to me. 12 Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ Jesus, greets you, always struggling on your behalf in his prayers, that you may stand mature and fully assured in all the will of God. 13 For I bear him witness that he has worked hard for you and for those in Laodicea and in Hierapolis. 14 Luke the beloved physician greets you, as does Demas.

I.          3 Jews: Aristarchus, Mark, Justus [vv10-11]
II.        3 Gentiles: Epaphras, Luke, Demas [vv12-14]
III.       1 Savior: Christ Jesus [v12]

I.         3 Jews: Aristarchus, Mark, Justus [vv10-11]

Aristarchus - 10 Aristarchus my fellow prisoner greets you.

Acts 19:29 So the city was filled with the confusion, and they rushed together into the theater, dragging with them Gaius and Aristarchus, Macedonians who were Paul’s companions in travel.

Acts 20:4 Sopater the Berean, son of Pyrrhus, accompanied him; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timothy; and the Asians, Tychicus and Trophimus.

Easy-Believism Christianity

What you are saved by is what you are saved to.

Acts 27:2 And embarking in a ship of Adramyttium, which was about to sail to the ports along the coast of Asia, we put to sea, accompanied by Aristarchus, a Macedonian from Thessalonica.

Col 4:10 Aristarchus my fellow prisoner greets you.

Mark – 10…and Mark the cousin of Barnabas (concerning whom you have received instructions --- if he comes to you, welcome him).

Acts 12:12 When [Peter] realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose other name was Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying.

Acts 13:5 When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. And they had John to assist them.

Acts 13:13 Now Paul and his companions set sail from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia. And John left them and returned to Jerusalem.

Acts 15:37-40 Now Barnabas wanted to take with them John called Mark. But Paul thought best not to take with them one who had withdrawn from them in Pamphylia and had not gone with them to the work. And there arose a sharp disagreement, so that they separated from each other. Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus, but Paul chose Silas and departed.

1 Pet 5:13 She who is at Babylon, who is likewise chosen, sends you greetings, and so does Mark, my son.

10…and Mark the cousin of Barnabas (concerning whom you have received instructions --- if he comes to you, welcome him).

2 Tim 4:11 Luke alone is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is very useful to me for ministry.

Justus - 11 and Jesus who is called Justus. These are the only men of the circumcision among my fellow workers for the kingdom of God, and they have been a comfort to me.

There’s a big lesson for us here. These men were a comfort and encouragement to Paul. Let us grow as greeters and comforters and encouragers.

II.        3 Gentiles: Epaphras, Luke, Demas [vv12-14]

Epaphras - 12 Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ Jesus, greets you, always struggling on your behalf in his prayers, that you may stand mature and fully assured in all the will of God. 13 For I bear him witness that he has worked hard for you and for those in Laodicea and in Hierapolis.

Col 1:7-8 just as you learned it from Epaphras our beloved fellow servant. He is a faithful minister of Christ on your behalf and has made known to us your love in the Spirit.

12-13 Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ Jesus, greets you, always struggling on your behalf in his prayers, that you may stand mature and fully assured in all the will of God. For I bear him witness that he has worked hard for you and for those in Laodicea and in Hierapolis.

Luke - 14 Luke the beloved physician greets you.

Demas – 14 Luke the beloved physician greets you, as does Demas.

2 Tim 4:9-12 Do your best to come to me soon. For Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia. Luke alone is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is very useful to me for ministry. Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus.

John MacArthur: “Jesus had his Judas, and Paul had his Demas … Even the two greatest leaders the world has ever known had those who failed them.”

III.      1 Savior: Christ Jesus [v12]
… a servant of Christ Jesus…

Col 3:4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
