Exodus 35:30-36:7

30 Then Moses said to the people of Israel, “See, the Lord has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah; 31 and He has filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, with intelligence, with knowledge, and with all craftsmanship, 32 to devise artistic designs, to work in gold and silver and bronze, 33 in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, for work in every skilled craft. 34 And He has inspired him to teach, both him and Oholiab the son of Ahisamach of the tribe of Dan. 35 He has filled them with skill to do every sort of work done by an engraver or by a designer or by an embroiderer in blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, or by a weaver, by any sort of workman or skilled designer.” 1 “Bezalel and Oholiab and every craftsman in whom the Lord has put skill and intelligence to know how to do any work in the construction of the sanctuary shall work in accordance with all that the Lord has commanded.” 2 And Moses called Bezalel and Oholiab and every craftsman in whose mind the Lord had put skill, everyone whose heart stirred him up to come to do the work. 3 And they received from Moses all the contribution that the people of Israel had brought for doing the work on the sanctuary. They still kept bringing him freewill offerings every morning, 4 so that all the craftsmen who were doing every sort of task on the sanctuary came, each from the task that he was doing, 5 and said to Moses, “The people bring much more than enough for doing the work that the Lord has commanded us to do.” 6 So Moses gave command, and word was proclaimed throughout the camp, “Let no man or woman do anything more for the contribution for the sanctuary.” So the people were restrained from bringing, 7 for the material they had was sufficient to do all the work, and more.

I.          A very special building [35:30-36:2]
II.        An ever generous people [36:2-7]
III.       A truly beautiful God [Ps 27:4]

I.         A very special building [35:30-36:2]
Ex 36:1 Bezalel and Oholiab and every craftsman in whom the Lord has put skill and intelligence to know how to do any work in the construction of the sanctuary shall work in accordance with all that the Lord has commanded.

Eph 4:16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

If you are a Christian, you should be serving and blessing others in a local church. If you are a Christian, you have been specially gifted by the Holy Spirit and to not use your gifts isn’t right.

Commit to a local church, covenant with us here at CrossLife, and serve and bless and love out of the strength and gifting that God supplies. Let’s journey together for God’s glory and for our good.

II.        An ever generous people [36:2-7]
This is all voluntary. God didn’t want grumbling givers for this very special building. God wanted joyful, grateful, thankful, cheerful givers. And He still desires that today.

6-7 “Let no man or woman do anything more for the contribution for the sanctuary.” So the people were restrained from bringing, for the material they had was sufficient to do all the work, and more.

2 Cor 9:6-8 6 The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

This is why rehearsing the gospel daily is so crucial for our maturity in Christ. You can’t be a grace-fueled, joy-filled giver if you love the things of this world.

If the old covenant people gave so much for an earthly building and the blood of goats, what will new covenant people give for the body and blood of Christ? It is an argument from the lesser to the greater. But ultimately, it’s an experience of grace that changes us and moves us from hoarding to generosity.

III.      A truly beautiful God [Ps 27:4]
4 One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord…

This innate craving for beauty is a desire for none other than God Himself who is a truly beautiful God.

On that day, the promise of Psalm 27 will be ours. Ps 27:4 One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord.
