I. The Celebration of God: “I will sing to the LORD” [v1]
1 Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the LORD, saying, "I will sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously…"
Redemption requires response! And a strong case could be made that the biblical response to the salvation of God is singing to God.
Those who are redeemed should regularly celebrate the Lord’s salvation of them through singing.
Whenever God does something great, He deserves to be celebrated…and usually this celebration is through singing.
Job 38:7 the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy.
Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Rev 5:12 saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!"
Does this describe your life? Do you love to celebrate God’s work of salvation over you? Are you regularly thankful for His amazing grace? Is singing a normal, joyful part of your life, not just Sundays but throughout the week? Has your heart been tuned to sing Thy grace?
II. The Works of God: “Awesome in glorious deeds” [v11]
11 Who is like you, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like you…awesome in glorious deeds…
4 "Pharaoh's chariots and his host he cast into the sea, and his chosen officers were sunk in the Red Sea. 5 The floods covered them; they went down into the depths like a stone. 6 Your right hand, O LORD, glorious in power, your right hand, O LORD, shatters the enemy. 7 In the greatness of your majesty you overthrow your adversaries; you send out your fury; it consumes them like stubble. 8 At the blast of your nostrils the waters piled up; the floods stood up in a heap; the deeps congealed in the heart of the sea.
9 The enemy said, “I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil, my desire shall have its fill of them. I will draw my sword; my hand shall destroy them.”
No, life is not about you. It’s not about us. It’s all about God and His greatness and His glory. That is where true and lasting happiness is found: living for His name and not our own.
10 You blew with your wind; the sea covered them; they sank like lead in the mighty waters…12 You stretched out your right hand; the earth swallowed them.
We rejoice together in the work of God on our behalf, especially the work of the Lamb of God slain for us, freeing us from the Egypt of our sin.
III. The Character of God: “Majestic in holiness” [v11]
11 Who is like you, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness…
The more we know the one true God and what He is like, the more we ought to worship Him and be in awe of Him and become like Him.
First, the people celebrated the eternity of God. 3…the LORD is his name.
18 The LORD will reign forever and ever.
Second, the people celebrated the power of God. 6 Your right hand, O LORD, glorious in power…
Third, the people celebrate the wrath of God. 6 Your right hand, O LORD, glorious in power, your right hand, O LORD, shatters the enemy. 7 In the greatness of your majesty you overthrow your adversaries; you send out your fury; it consumes them like stubble.
3 The LORD is a man of war; the LORD is his name.
Jonathan Edwards: “The future punishment of ungodly men is to show the whole universe the glory of God’s power.”
Fourth, the people celebrated the greatness of God. 11 Who is like you, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness…

Fifth, and lastly, the people celebrated the love of God. 13 You have led in your steadfast love the people whom you have redeemed; you have guided them by your strength to your holy abode.
20 Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambourines and dancing. 21 And Miriam sang to them: "Sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea."
2 The LORD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him.
