Philippians 2:9-11

 

Outline:
·       This Savior Truly is Able to Save!

This Savior Truly is Able to Save!
·       v.9 -- Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,
·       v.8 -- And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
·       Carson -- Here, in magnificent summary, is the Father’s approval and vindication of the Son.

The Name that is to be Treasured
·       v.9-11 -- Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
·       Ex 20:7“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltlesswho takes his name in vain.
·       Is 42:8 -- I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols
·       Matt 6:9 -- Our Father in heaven  Hallowed by Your Name.

The King to Whom All Worship is Due
§  v.10-11 -- 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

§  Ex 34:6,8 -- The Lord passed before him and proclaimed (His name), “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness… And Moses quicklybowed his head toward the earth and worshiped.

§  Rev 5:11-12 -- 11 Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, 12 saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!”
