The Utter Worthlessness of Idolatry

  • v.8 -- Those who pay regard to vain idols forsake their hope of steadfast love.

  • Ps 115:4-7 -- Their idols are silver and gold, the work of human hands. They have mouths, but do not speak; eyes, but do not see. They have ears, but do not hear; noses, but do not smell. They have hands, but do notfeel; feet, but do not walk; and they do not make a sound in their throat.

  • v.9-11 -- O Israel, trust in the Lord! He is their help and their shield. 10 O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord! He is their help and their shield. 11 You who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord! He is their help and their shield.

The God Who Alone Saves!

  • v.9 -- But I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Salvation belongs to the Lord!

  • Rom 8:30 -- 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

  • 1 Tim 1:1 -- Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope

The God Who May Choose to Work in Very Strange Ways

  • 1:17 -- 17  And the Lord appointed a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

  • 2:10 -- 10 And the Lord spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah out upon the dry land.
