God is the Greatest Reality

Colossians 3:1-4
1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
The Bible tells us what is ultimately real and true and beautiful and good --- not the world, not famous people, not athletes, not presidents or senators or judges. It’s the Bible that alone has a consistent, comprehensive view of the world that is true and real.
I. God is the greatest reality [v1]
II. Jesus is Lord over all [v1]
III. Death is dead [v1, v3]
IV. King Jesus is coming [v4]
V. Our future is bright like the sun [v4]
I. God is the greatest reality [v1]
1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
Col 1:16 For by [Jesus] all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities --- all things were created through him and for him.
God is the greatest reality and the ultimate Being. There is nothing more real and beautiful and awesome than God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
II. Jesus is Lord over all [v1]
1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
1 Pet 3:22 [Jesus] has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him.
Jesus is Lord over all. Don’t ever forget who Jesus is and where Jesus is. The biblical answer can truly minister to your troubled heart.
III. Death is dead [v1, v3]
1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God…3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
1 Jn 3:14 We know that we have passed out of death into life.
“We are now on the other side of the grave and are walking with Christ.”
IV. King Jesus is coming [v4]
4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Is he? Is he your life? Is he your greatest reality and your greatest worth? Would you give up everything for him? Are you living for him? After all, your life is what you live for.
4 When Christ who is your life appears.
Jesus will come to raise the dead, judge the world, and make all things new. And the sons of God who are now hidden will no longer be hidden.
V. Our future is bright like the sun [v4]
4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
When we've been here ten thousand years
Bright, shining as the sun
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we first begun
1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.

Jonathan Edwards, Heaven is a World of Love: “There in heaven this fountain of love, this eternal three in one, is set open without any obstacle to hinder access to it. There this glorious God is manifested and shines forth in full glory, in beams of love; there the fountain overflows in streams and rivers of love and delight, enough for all to drink at, and to swim in, yea, so as to overflow the world as it were with a deluge of love.”
