Micah 6:9-16
9 The voice of the LORD cries to the city --- and it is sound wisdom to fear your name: Hear of the rod and of him who appointed it! 10 Can I forget any longer the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is accursed? 11 Shall I acquit the man with wicked scales and with a bag of deceitful weights? 12 Your rich men are full of violence; your inhabitants speak lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth. 13 Therefore I strike you with a grievous blow, making you desolate because of your sins. 14 You shall eat, but not be satisfied, and there shall be hunger within you; you shall put away, but not preserve, and what you preserve I will give to the sword. 15 You shall sow, but not reap; you shall tread olives, but not anoint yourselves with oil; you shall tread grapes, but not drink wine. 16 For you have kept the statutes of Omri, and all the works of the house of Ahab; and you have walked in their counsels, that I may make you a desolation, and your inhabitants a hissing; so you shall bear the scorn of my people.
With so many voices beckoning for your heart’s attention and devotion and allegiance and entertainment, let nothing dwell in you richly like the Scriptures, God’s perfect and sufficient Word.
9 The voice of the LORD cries to the city. and as we turn to His voice, as we hear His W, let us c Him more clearly and love Him more dearly.

9 it is sound wisdom to fear your name.
When you truly fear God, when you see just how great He is, people’s opinions and voices and stature don’t seem all that impressive any more. Your heart is impressed with God, you are in awe of God, and this changes everything.
9 it is sound wisdom to fear your name.
Dale Ralph Davis: “Fearing Yahweh’s name means having a trembling trust for all that His name represents --- all that Yahweh is and says.”
II. God is Sovereign [v9]

Is 10:5 Ah, Assyria, the rod of my anger; the staff in their hands is my fury!
A.W. Pink: “God does as He pleases, only as He pleases, and always as He pleases.”
The Westminster Catechism: “God from all eternity, did, by the most wise and holy counsel of His own will, freely, and unchangeable, ordain whatsoever comes to pass.”
Is 46:9-10 I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.
Job 23:13 But God stands alone, and who can oppose Him? He does whatever He pleases.
Ps 115:3 Our God is in heaven; He does whatever pleases Him.
Prov 16:33 The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord.
Eph 1:11 He works all things after the counsel of His own will.

III. God is Holy [v10]
10 Can I forget any longer the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is accursed?
IV. God is Just [v11]
11 Shall I acquit the man with wicked scales and with a bag of deceitful weights?
Prov 20:23 Unequal weights are an abomination to the Lord, and false scales are not good.
V. God is Truth [v12]
12 Your rich men are full of violence; your inhabitants speak lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.
