We Can Always Run To Jesus

Sunday, January 12, 2025
Pastor Jojo Ma

35 On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” 36 And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. 38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” 39 And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” 41 And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

In the New Testament we see Jesus performing basically three (3) types of miracles that demonstrate his power over disease, his power over demons, and now his power over nature.

36 And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. 38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion.

Richard Bauckham: “One of the marks of an eyewitness account is irrelevant detail.”

2 Pet 1:16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

This should be an encouragement to you that the Bible is recorded history, its accounts are true, and faithful people recorded accurately what they witnessed and learned from those close to Jesus.

37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling.

38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?”

39 And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” 41 And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

Col 1:16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible.

Ps 65:7 [God] who stills the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, the tumult of the peoples.

Job 12:15 If He withholds the waters, they dry up; if He sends them out, they overwhelm the land.

Ps 77:16 When the waters saw you, O God, when the waters saw you, they were afraid; indeed, the deep trembled.

Ps 107:28-30 28 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them from their distress. 29 He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. 30 Then they were glad that the waters were quiet, and He brought them to their desired haven.

He said to Peter, and he says to you, “Why are you so afraid?”

Tim Keller: “There’s another way to look at life. If [Jesus] is Lord of the storm, then no matter what shape the world is in – or your life is in – you will find Jesus provides all the healing, all the rest, all the power you could possibly want.”

Maybe you’re angry at God for allowing your suffering to go on, but remember if God is all powerful, which He is, and if God is love, which He is, and if God is all-knowing, which He is, then you also have a God who has reasons for your suffering that you and I can’t understand.

Elisabeth Elliot: “God is God, and since He is God, He is worthy of my worship and my service. I will find rest nowhere else but in His will, and that will is necessarily infinitely, immeasurably, unspeakably beyond my largest notions of what He is up to.”

Do you know just how much Jesus loves you and cares for you? If you allow the love of Jesus to penetrate into the very core of your being, you will be changed, and you will be at rest in life. And you will have the power to handle anything in life that threatens you.

Let the goodness of Jesus and the good news of the gospel seep deep into your heart, and you will find His perfect love casting out your fears.

1 Pet 5:7 casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you.

Jesus said that if I fear
I should come to Him
No one else can be my shield
I should come to Him
For the Lord is good and faithful
He will keep us day and night
We can always run to Jesus
Jesus, strong and kind
