The Great Help that We All Need (18b-19)
·       v.18b-19 -- Yes, and I will rejoice, 19 for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance,
·       2 Cor 2:11 -- 11 You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us through the prayers of many.
·       Rom 15:30 -- 30 I appeal to you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strivetogether with me in your prayers to God on my behalf,
·       Col 4:12 -- 12 Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ Jesus, greets you, always struggling on your behalf in his prayers

The Great Fear We All Should Have (20)
·       v.20 -- 20 as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death.
·       D.A. Carson -- Paul’s driving concern is not that he should be released from jail or that, if he must die, he should have a relatively painless departure, but that he should do nothing of which he would some day be ashamed.
·       2 Cor 5:9 -- So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.
·       1 Cor 1:10 -- 10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God
·       1 Thes 4:1 -- Finally, then, brothers, we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, just as you are doing, that you do so more and more

Paul’s All-Consuming Passion for Him (21-23)
·       v.21 -- 21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
·       Sproul – The only reason you exist and that I exist is for Him. For to live is Christ.
·       v.21-23 -- 21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. 23 I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better.

Paul’s Deep, Deep Burden for Them (24-26)
·       v.24-26 -- 24 But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account. 25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith, 26 so that in me you may have ample cause to glory in Christ Jesus, because of my coming to you again.
